Kol Dorot On Your Way

#11 We Have Stopped Breaking the [Copyright] Law

Episode Summary

Rabbi Noah and Cantor Sarah discuss a new program that allows Kol Dorot to compensate the copyright holders of all the music we use at services, Religious School, and beyond.

Episode Notes

Music is a key part of synagogue life—we sing most of our prayers, teach songs in Religious School, make tons of songsheets, etc. But all those Jewish songs were written by someone, and until recently, just about every synagogue used music without permission and without compensating anyone.

In this episode, Rabbi Noah and Cantor Sarah discuss a new program that allows Kol Dorot to legally license the music we use and to compensate the copyright owners.

This "administrative" issue turns out to be a great example of putting our Jewish ethics into practice in how our community operates.
